About DFA Design for Asia Awards

DFA Design for Asia Awards
The DFA Design for Asia Awards is the flagship programme of the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC), celebrating design excellence and acknowledging outstanding designs with Asian perspectives. Since its launch in 2003, the DFA Design for Asia Awards has been a stage upon which design talents and corporations can showcase their design projects internationally.

All Entries are recruited either by open submission or nomination. Entrants may submit design projects in one of 28 categories under six key design disciplines, namely Communication Design, Fashion & Accessory Design, Product & Industrial Design, Spatial Design, and two new disciplines from 2022: Digital & Motion Design and Service & Experience Design.

Entries will be accessed according to the overall excellence and factors like creativity & human centric innovation, usability, aesthetic, sustainability, impact in Asia as well as commercial and societal success in two rounds of judging. The judges are design professionals and experts attuned to design developments in Asia and experienced in different international design awards. Entries for Silver Award, Bronze Award or Merit Award will be selected according to their design excellence at the first round judging, while Grand Award or Gold Award will be conferred to finalists after the final round judging.

*User Interface (UI): Design of the interface on actual products or digital systems or services interface (website and applications) for users’ interaction and operation
*Game: Games for PC, Console, Mobile Apps, etc.
*Video: Explainer video, branding video, title sequence/ promo, infographics animation, interactive video (VR & AR), big screen or digital videoprojection, TVC, etc.

FASHION & ACCESSORY DESIGN
*Fashion Apparel
*Functional Apparel: Sportswear, safety clothing & personal protective equipment, clothing for special needs (for elderly, disabled, infant), uniform & occasion apparel, etc.
*Intimate Wear: Underwear, sleepwear, lightweight robe, etc.
*Jewellery & Fashion Accessories: Diamond earring, pearl necklace, sterling silver bracelet, watch & clock, bags, eyewear, hat, scarf, etc.
*Footwear

PRODUCT & INDUSTRIAL DESIGN
*Household Appliances: Appliances for living room / bedroom, Kitchen / dining room, Bathrooms / spas, electronic products, etc.
*Homeware: Tableware & decoration, lighting, furniture, home textiles, etc.
*Professional & Commercial Product: Vehicles (land, water, aerospace), special tools or devices for medicine / health care / constructions / agriculture, devices or furniture for business use etc.
*Information & Communications Technology Product: Computers and information technology, computer accessories, communication devices, camera & camcorder, audio & visual products, smart devices, etc.
*Leisure & Entertainment Product: Entertainment technology devices, gifts & crafts, outdoor, leisure & sports, stationery, games & hobby product, etc.

SERVICE & EXPERIENCE DESIGN
Include but not limited to:
Product, service or system design project that enhances the effectiveness in operation, or improves user experience in both public and private sectors (e.g. public healthcare, its measures and digital out-patient service, education system, human resources or organisational transformation);
Project that is designed to resolve the social issue(s), or aims at the benefit of humanitarian, community or environment (e.g. recycle campaign or services; facilities or service for the disabled or elderly, environmentally friendly transportation system, public safety service);
Product, service or activity that focuses on people experiences, interactions with culturally relevant, end-to-end service journeys and design service experience across multiple touch-points as well as stakeholders (e.g. visiting activities, holistic customer experiences)

*Commercial & Showroom Spaces: Cinema, retail store, showroom etc.
*Workspaces: Office, industrial (industrial properties, warehouses, garages, distribution centres, etc.), etc.
